“Pandora’s Heartaches” is a collection of fictional stories that are based on earthly experiences which revolve around contemporary issues. These tales depict themes of marriage and infidelity, morality and spiritual beliefs, sexual and parenting issues, violence and survival, and human behavior. These topics are woven into each story, to make it thoughtful and edifying.
The Forty Club came about because a friend of mine in his mid-forties just would not stop lamenting the fact that he was now too old for anything. Having just turned thirty myself at the time, I didn't see how forty could be any worse thirty which hadn't been a problem for me at all. My friend's answer was: "just wait and see when you turn forty."
And so The Forty Club was born. The books tells the story of Jack Russo on his fortieth birthday. He weathers the greeting cards depicting him as an ancient relic and endures the ribbing of co-workers calling him an old fossil and so on, taking it all as par for the course. But then he receives a strange visitor who informs him that he must join the Forty Club. The club is responsible for the general attitude of society and the very greeting cards Jack has just received. He is urged to take a seat on the sidelines and watch the rest of life go by. In fact, the added burden of a moral responsibility to do so is thrown into the mix.
The remainder of the story deals with Jack trying to come to reconcile how he will live the rest of his life. It's a struggle we all must face and it is depicted here with humor and insight. This slim touching tale is sure to satisfy.
